Areas of Volunteer Service
We are proud to offer so many great opportunities for anyone who wishes to volunteer at MarinHealth Medical Center. The positions accommodate high school students as young as 16 years old, college students, to general adults and senior populations. Please let our Volunteer Coordinator know if you have special skills (clerical work, retail sales, computers, etc.) Below you will find a list of current opportunities:
High School Students (minimum 1-year commitment)
Availability is very limited, but please complete an application to check if there are any openings or to be placed on the wait-list. Please note: applications are for consideration only, it does not guarantee placement in the program.
SMILE "Students Making Illness a Little Easier" Cart
Our High School Volunteer Program, S.M.I.L.E. Cart is for high school students
age 16 and over with only ten spots available in the entire program. Best
time to apply is between January – March each year. This highly
competitive year-long program is geared for students who are seriously
considering a career in the medical field, and demonstrate reliability
and commitment level in their application.
If you are accepted as a volunteer, you will be assigned one of the following permanent 2-hour shifts per week: Monday - Friday, 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm. Selections will be based on:
- Your application and eligibility
- Availability that matches current openings
- Commitment level, preferably exceeding the minimum weekly commitment to help with other projects and events during the year
- Personal accountability and communication skills
- Education and career interests
We apologize in advance if you are not accepted to participate in the program. We have extremely limited positions and cannot accept everyone who applies.
By submitting an application, you agree to accept the responsibility of working your assigned weekly commitment over a period of 1 year as a teen volunteer. If you fail to comply with my commitment or other hospital requirements, the Volunteer Services Staff reserve the right to remove me from the program at any time.
Adult Clinical Students (minimum 1-year commitment)
We hold quarterly New Volunteer Orientations in the Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter. Please complete an application to be placed on the wait-list for the upcoming Orientation. During the 1-year period, you will gain experience in the following in-patient care departments:
- Ambulatory Surgery
- Cardiac Care
- Emergency Care
- Intensive Care
- Medical / Surgical Units
- Maternity Care
Adult Clinical Students (minimum 1-year commitment)
Please complete an application to be placed on the wait-list for an upcoming Orientation. During the year long period, you will gain experience at the following centers:

MarinHealth Breast Health Center (outpatient clinic)
4-hour shifts available Monday through Friday, 8:00 am - 6:00 pm
General Adult Application (minimum 1-year commitment)

Art Gallery Coordinator
Coordinate rotating Art Shows by selecting artwork from partnering local artists to display within our hospital corridors and acts as liaison between artist and art buyer -
Gift Gallery
Retail sales, utilizing cash register and credit card terminal or helping to inventory, stock, and price merchandise and gifts. -
Hospitality Cart
Set up coffee cart for staff, and a hospitality cart for patients offering cookies and newspapers each morning. -
Wayfinder
Provide concierge services, greet and direct visitors and patients, as well as escort patients and visitors as needed.
