"A Night In Marin Gardens" Gala Benefits The Marin Cancer Institute At Marin General Hospital
GREENBRAE, CA — "A Night in Marin Gardens" gala hosted by Marin General Hospital Foundation benefitted the Marin Cancer Institute at Marin General Hospital on Saturday, June 11. More than 400 patrons attended the event.
The event was the Foundation's first gala in 10 years and is one of several significant fundraising benchmarks achieved since Marin General Hospital's return to self-governance nearly one year ago. The gala was chaired by Diane Doodha, Ann Otter, Andrea Schultz and Cathie Bennett Warner, all members of the Foundation board.
"Re-establishing the gala here in Marin is an important milestone for the foundation. Together we salute Marin Cancer Institute, the physicians, nurses and staff for their ongoing dedication and tireless work," said Jon Friedenberg, president, Marin General Hospital Foundation.
A highlight of the evening was a touching video featuring the Marin Cancer Institute. Twelve North Bay physicians were honored for their outstanding work with cancer patients: Tim Crowley, MD; Peter Eisenberg, MD; Cheryl Ewing, MD; Gary Grossfeld, MD; David Gullion, MD; Francine Halberg, MD; Bobbie Head, MD; Leah Kelley, MD; Jennifer Lucas, MD; Alex Metzger, MD; Lloyd Miyawaki, MD; and Joseph Poen, MD.
Dr. Lucas, president, Marin Specialty Care (MSC), received the 2011 Crystal Spotlight Awards for Clinical Excellence on behalf of the honored physicians, all part of the MSC physicians group, from Lee Domanico, CEO, Marin General Hospital. Dr. Lucas was born at Marin General Hospital and raised in nearby Novato.
"Over the past year, the Foundation has achieved outstanding fundraising accomplishments, which will provide for the purchase of new breast imaging equipment. The remodeling of the Emergency Department will be made possible by a recent $2.9-million donation. ," said Domanico. "We look forward to sharing the hospital's continued accomplishments as we move into year two of our return to the community."
Television journalist Doug McConnell, longtime host of KRON-TV's popular "Bay Area Back Roads" program, and now host of "OpenRoad with Doug McConnell, Exploring the West" on public television's KQED and KTEH, served as master of ceremonies for the event.
