GREENBRAE, CA — Marin General Hospital is bringing 2015 to a close on a high note, garnering praise and recognition for exceptional patient and employee care as well as superiority in clinical excellence. In the latter half of 2015, Marin General Hospital received prestigious recognition from such esteemed organizations as Healthgrades, the Leapfrog Group, The Joint Commission, BETA Healthcare Group and the North Bay Business Journal.

This is the third consecutive period that Marin General has received an “A” grade.

On November 17, Marin General Hospital was recognized as a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures® by The Joint Commission, the leading accreditor of health care organizations in the United States. The Top Performer program recognizes hospitals for improving performance on evidence-based interventions that increase the chances of healthy outcomes for patients with certain conditions, including heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, surgical care, children’s asthma, stroke, venous thromboembolism and perinatal care, as well as for inpatient psychiatric services and immunizations.

To be a Top Performer, hospitals had to meet three performance criteria including:

  • Achieve cumulative performance of 95 percent or above across all reported accountability measures;
  • Achieve performance of 95 percent or above on each and every reported accountability measure with at least 30 denominator cases; and
  • Have at least one core measure set that had a composite rate of 95 percent or above, and within that measure set, achieve a performance rate of 95 percent or above on all applicable individual accountability measures.

In November of 2015, Marin General’s Emergency Department (ED) was honored by the BETA Healthcare Group, the largest writer of hospital professional liability coverage in the state of California, for their efforts to enhance patient safety by demonstrating compliance with BETA’s Quest for Zero: Excellence in Emergency Department patient safety initiative. The award was presented at BETA’s annual High Risk, High Reliability Symposium in San Diego on November 19 and 20. Marin General earned this award twice previously in 2013 and 2014.

Also in November, Marin General Hospital was named one of the North Bay Business Journal’s 2015 Healthiest Companies. The award honors the healthiest companies in the North Bay after analyzing nominations, company survey input, and extensive review. Companies were honored at the North Bay Business Journal’s 2015 Health Care Conference in Santa Rosa on November 20, 2015.

According to the North Bay Business Journal, “the awards highlight successful wellness programs by employers and organizations, which can help offset employer health care costs and improve employee morale and productivity. Such efforts can also help employers retain and recruit employees. This year’s recipients were selected using criteria established by and done in conjunction with the Northern California Center for Well Being, a Santa Rosa-based nonprofit that focuses on wellness matters for employers and the general population as a means of lowering health care costs.” Marin General was one of just 20 healthiest companies selected in the North Bay.

“I am extremely proud of the honors bestowed on the incredible staff of Marin General Hospital, their impeccable talents and commitment to patients,” said Lee Domanico, Chief Executive Officer for Marin General. “I look forward to continuing this trend of excellence into 2016 and making Marin General Hospital a benchmark for the very finest treatment and patient-centric care in the San Francisco Bay Area.”
