First Marin baby of 2015 makes an entrance at 3:15 AM

GREENBRAE, CA — A girl born to a Mill Valley couple claimed the title of Marin’s First Baby of the Year Thursday at Marin General Hospital.

The 7 pounds 8 ounces blonde baby girl was born at 3:15 AM 6 days after her due date. Her parents named her Lucia Marlene and plan to call her “Luca” for short.

Luca is the second child of Thiemo, 48 (from Germany) and Stephanie 37 (from Minnesota). The couple currently lives on Green Gulch Farm and are both Zen Priests. "New Year’s Day is a big day on the farm so we had to be prepared," said Theimo. "Our only plan for the New Year was to be ready to have our baby," said a smiling Stephanie with beautiful Luca in her arms. Green Gulch Farm currently has 80 residents and baby Luca makes 81! When the couple arrived at the hospital they were told their baby could be the first of the New Year. "Is there a prize?" Stephanie jokingly asked. She was surprised to hear there was something for the first baby. 

Marin General Hospital spokesperson Jamie Maites says the hospital prepared a special basket of goodies for the First Baby. The basket was presented to the family after Lucia was born.

"Welcome Baby Luca," squealed Lorena Perez, RN. "Thank you Stephanie for your trust and surrender to the process. Thank you Blank Family for this profound and enriching experience which as a labor and delivery nurse, I express with a joyous heart. Lucia's birth could not have been more beautifully orchestrated. A true miracle! May light, love, and gratitude be in your lives in this New Year and every year after!"
