Marin General Hospital’s Cancer Institute Earns Highest Level of National Accreditation with Commendation from American College of Surgeons’ Commission on Cancer for 4th time in a Row!
GREENBRAE, CA – The Cancer Institute at Marin General Hospital received a Three-Year Accreditation with Commendation, the highest level of recognition from the American College of Surgeons’ Commission on Cancer (CoC) for the third consecutive time. By exceeding all seven standards of care considered for special commendation, Marin General Hospital’s Cancer Institute has once again earned Gold level designation, a qualification for the CoC’s Outstanding Achievement award. In addition, the Cancer Institute fulfilled all 27 additional standards required for Comprehensive Community Cancer Programs.
To earn voluntary CoC accreditation, a cancer program must meet or exceed the CoC quality care standards, be evaluated every three years through a survey process, and maintain levels of excellence in the delivery of comprehensive patient-centered care. Three-Year Accreditation with Commendation is only awarded to a facility that exceeds standard requirements at the time of its triennial survey.

The Cancer Institute takes a multidisciplinary approach to treating cancer as a complex group of diseases that requires consultation among surgeons, medical and radiation oncologists, diagnostic radiologists, pathologists, and other cancer specialists. This multidisciplinary partnership results in greatly improved patient care.
Marin General Hospital’s cancer program has been continuously accredited since 1985 –and beyond that has earned the Outstanding Achievement Award with its past three accreditations in 2008, 2011 and 2014. 2017 recipients of this elite award will be announced later in the year.
