Douglas E. Cohen, MD
I spent my earlier years on the East Coast but moved out to California to complete my Internal Medicine residency at UCSF. After spending about five years doing primary care, urgent care, travel medicine, and occupational medicine I shifted my focus to specialize in hospital-based medicine. It was only in 1996 that the term “Hospitalist” was invented, and that field has exploded since then, with an estimated greater than 50,000 practicing Hospitalists in the United States today. I enjoy being a Hospitalist because it allows me to use my many years of training and experience for the good of helping often very sick people in the Hospital get better and back to good health. Over the years I have also collaborated on quality improvement and patient safety projects and have served on numerous Hospital committees in an effort to continue to drive improvements in healthcare at our Medical Center. I am proud of where we are today and look forward to serving the Hospital and the community for many years to come.
I consider a healthy work-life balance to be extremely important. When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my family doing outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, camping, going to the beach, farmers markets, and street fairs. I also have a passion for photography and often have my camera handy to snap pictures of interesting landscapes, buildings, nature, or my family. When we are indoors, we read, play games, listen to music, and dream about places we would like to visit.
