Patient Responsibilities
As a patient, you have the right to receive considerate, respectful care at all times and under all circumstances. In addition, there are specific rights and responsibilities you have during your hospital stay. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our Patient Relations Department.
You are Responsible for:
- Providing staff with available documents relating to your health (e.g., advanced health care directives)
- Providing, to the best of your knowledge, an accurate and complete description of your present condition and past medical history
- Understanding your health care needs and asking your physician or other care team members for information relating to your treatment
- Reporting any changes in your condition to your physician or other care team members
- Informing those who treat you if you want to permit or decline a specific treatment
- Taking responsibility for your well being if you do not follow the practitioner’s instructions or refuse treatment
- Following the hospital’s policies, which affect patient care and conduct
- Abiding by local, state, and federal laws
- Keeping appointments and cooperating with your physicians and care team members
- Meet your financial commitment to Marin General Hospital as soon as possible
- Being considerate of other persons and uphold the rights of all patients
