VO2 Max Testing

VO2 Max Testing

If you're dedicated to beating your own record, reaching your top athletic form, or enhancing your training and recovery process, VO2 max testing could be the way to go. This personalized assessment analyzes cardiovascular fitness and endurance capacity and provides scientific insights to improve your training and performances.

What is VO2 Max?

VO2 max testing measures aerobic capacity by determining the maximum volume (V) of oxygen (O2) your body can use while exercising. Learning your personal VO2 max score can help you train smarter, maximize recovery, and optimize performance. As part of the testing process, a body composition analysis is provided, which includes the percentage of fat, bone and muscle in your body.

VO2 max can also indicate your risk of cardiovascular disease and is one of the best predictors of all-cause mortality risk. VO2 max is more closely correlated with morbidity than many other well-known risk factors, including BMI, blood pressure, and cholesterol.

Train Better. Recover Faster.

Calculating VO2 max is important for endurance athletes, including runners, cyclists, swimmers, rowers, and triathletes, as well as anyone looking to burn fat or improve their cardio workouts.

Once you learn your VO2 max, you can calculate your precise target heart rate/power zones rather than just estimating. Optimal training zones are unique to each athlete, and knowing yours will reveal precisely how hard you need to work to burn fat and improve cardiovascular performance. You’ll be able to train smarter – not harder – and avoid the common pitfalls of overtraining, such as soreness, injury, and a weakened immune system.

Why Choose MarinHealth?

MarinHealth’s Cardiovascular Performance Center’s testing program is overseen by cardiologists, and every assessment is guided by an expert exercise physiologist. Unlike most other testing facilities, we offer your choice of treadmill or stationary bike, so you can push to your limits wherever you feel most comfortable.

In addition to your VO2 max number, we provide a personalized report so you’ll have all the insights you need to tailor your diet and exercise plans based on your results. Should your VO2 max screening indicate any cardiovascular concerns, you’ll be connected to our world-class cardiologists for additional testing.

What To Expect

Your VO2 max appointment will take about two hours. Please arrive well-hydrated and ready to work out. You’ll wear a heart rate monitor and a special medical mask and will exercise on your equipment of choice (treadmill, stationary bike, or rowing machine). Following a warm-up, you’ll gradually increase intensity for 10-20 minutes while our advanced medical technology and specialized software measure the volume and ratio of O2 and CO2 you breathe in and out.

Following the test, you’ll receive a thorough, personalized report detailing your results and recommendations.
