Medical Nutrition Therapy

Medical Nutrition Therapy

If you are managing a specific health condition, our RDNs will provide nutrition education and work with you to create and implement a realistic, personalized nutrition strategy. After each meeting, the RDN will share details with your referring provider via your medical chart. You’ll also have email access to your RDN for any clarifying questions.

Nutrition counseling can help you lower blood pressure and blood lipids, lose weight, improve nutritional intake, and more, resulting in fewer complications, fewer hospitalizations, and an improved quality of life.

Applicable diagnoses include but are not limited to:

  • Cardiovascular Disease
  • Hypertension
  • Hyperlipemia
  • Osteoporosis
  • Irritable Bowel Disease (Crohn’s Disease, Ulcerative Colitis)

Insurance Coverage

A healthcare provider referral is required for Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT). Many health insurance plans cover this service, although the number of visits, copays, and deductibles may vary. Currently, Medicare only covers MNT for diabetes or kidney disease diagnoses. Partnership Health Plan covers MNT for most diagnoses.

Please ask your doctor to send a referral to the MarinHealth Integrative Wellness Center though APeX (our electronic medical record system) or fax it to 415-925-7621. Once we receive the referral, our office staff will verify your insurance coverage. Please note: some insurances require prior authorization before an appointment is scheduled. After your insurance coverage is verified, we will contact you to schedule an appointment.

Once your appointment has been scheduled, you will be sent a Nutrition Intake Form to complete prior to meeting with you. If you prefer, please download the form.
