A Collaborative Team of Experts
Our maternity care team is the result of a thoughtful collaboration between obstetricians (OB/GYNs), midwives, and other childbirth professionals. As part of our special collaboration with UCSF Health, the Maternity Care team is co-directed by a UCSF Health perinatologist and OB/GYN with special expertise in the care of high-risk pregnancies. We follow UCSF Health’s proven academic protocols to care for mothers and babies. A UCSF Health prenatal diagnostic center staffed with specialists in high-risk obstetrics is located adjacent to the hospital, allowing women with high-risk pregnancies to get the extra monitoring they need close to home and enabling them to deliver their babies at MarinHealth Medical Center. UCSF Health geneticists are available to consult onsite, as needed. UCSF Health experts are also available 24/7 in our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
Your Baby, Your Way
We understand that your baby’s birth is an intensely personal experience, and we want to empower you to choose the type of delivery you prefer. MarinHealth is one of the few systems in Marin and San Francisco Counties to offer both Certified Nurse Midwives and OB/GYNs for prenatal care and delivery, and we have both at the Medical Center 24/7. Our midwives and physicians are licensed, highly regulated healthcare providers. To ensure the best possible care for all infants, our interdisciplinary team meets twice a day to discuss every tiny patient. You’re in excellent hands and you can count on wonderful pregnancy care, maternity care, and support after delivery.

Certified Nurse Midwives
Certified nurse midwives are registered nurses with a master's degree in nursing or public health. They are certified through the American College of Nurse-Midwives, working in conjunction with the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. Midwives are experts in normal, physiological birth, and aim to instill a sense of confidence and calm during pregnancy and birth, all the while ensuring the safety of mom and baby. -
Obstetricians
Our obstetrician / gynecologists (OB/GYN) are physicians trained to manage high-risk pregnancies, perform C-sections, and support you every step of the way from prenatal care through delivery. -
UCSF Perinatologists
High-risk pregnancies are stressful enough without having to leave Marin for treatment. That’s why we have UCSF Health experts on site to help moms bring high-risk pregnancies to term and to care for newborns with special health issues. In addition, pregnant women with type 1, type 2, or gestational diabetes can get special advice and supervision from our Braden Diabetes Center. -
UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital Neonatologists
UCSF Benioff Children's Hospitals neonatologists, pediatricians who specialize in the care of fragile infants, work on site at the Medical Center’s Level II NICU. Infants needing additional care are immediately taken to our NICU for 24-hour monitoring and highly specialized treatment. -
Hospital Care Team
Maternity Care at MarinHealth Medical Center, including anesthesia, pediatrics, specialized nursing care, and advanced perinatology, is available around-the-clock. We always have an OR and surgical team ready for emergency cesareans in one of our two new C-section procedure rooms. Our nursing team is comprised of dedicated obstetric and neonatal nurses, specially trained in support of both natural childbirth and high-risk deliveries.
